A new Helldivers 2 leak has indicated that ship customization may be in development for the game. Many Helldivers 2 players have been asking to customize their Super Destroyer since launch, and it may finally come to fruition.

Customization has been a hot topic for Helldivers 2 fans for a long time. However, much of the conversation centers on new ways for players to customize their characters and weapons, which makes sense – it’s what they see for the majority of the time they’re playing the game. But the Super Destroyer has been totally left behind in this regard, remaining a blank slate that players can’t change. They can change their ship name, sure, but not its actual appearance. That might be about to change.

Helldivers 2 Could Be Getting Ship Customization in the Future

According to a post by reputable Helldivers 2 insider IronS1ghts on X, various ship customization options have been discovered in the game’s files. Rumored color customization for Helldivers 2’s Super Destroyer includes Primary Color, Primary Color (Interior), Secondary Color, and Banner Color. IronS1ghts also claims that texture customization may become available, with options including Set Texture and Set Banner. They do attempt to temper expectations by saying that “the content is possibly scrapped,” so it’s not quite time to get excited yet.

In a follow-up post, IronS1ghts said there’s “a LOT of customization in relation to ships, armor, weapons,” but doesn’t know if it will be added, stating that developer Arrowhead Game Studios is “holding onto a lot of content at the moment.” If IronS1ghts is correct, it’s unclear why the developer isn’t releasing this content. It’s entirely possible that it simply isn’t in a finished state yet, but it’s good to know that the studio still has Helldivers 2‘s customization on its mind for the future.

It’s also worth remembering that the developer could be hesitant to release anything that may harm the game’s performance. Players have been reporting that Helldivers 2‘s performance is getting worse for a while now, and optimization is quickly becoming one of the biggest requests from the community. Giving players the ability to customize their Super Destroyer sounds great on paper, but if it amplifies performance issues in any way, that will be frustrating for players who are already experiencing these problems during missions.
